Couples Counselling & Relationship Therapy
Every relationship goes through difficult seasons. Whether you are facing recurring conflict, growing emotional distance, a breakdown of trust, or simply a feeling that something important has been lost between you — couples counselling can help you understand each other more deeply, communicate more effectively, and rediscover what brought you together.
At Balanced Life Psychotherapy & Counselling, we provide a safe, neutral space where both partners are heard equally. Our Gottman-trained therapist works with couples at all stages — from those looking to strengthen a healthy relationship to those navigating serious crisis points.
What We Help Couples With
Couples come to us for many different reasons. We regularly support couples working through:
- Communication breakdown and recurring conflict
- Emotional disconnection and growing apart
- Rebuilding trust after infidelity or betrayal
- Navigating major life changes together (relocation, parenthood, career shifts)
- Pre-marital counselling and relationship preparation
- Pre- and post-divorce counselling
- Co-parenting challenges and supporting children through separation
- Intercultural relationship dynamics
- Intimacy and sexual difficulties
- Expat relationship strain
Our Approach to Couples Therapy
Our lead couples therapist Geetika Malhotra is trained in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Levels 1 and 2), one of the most extensively researched and evidence-based approaches to relationship therapy in the world. She also integrates other modalities including Emotionally Focused Therapy principles, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Solutions Focused Therapy depending on what the couple needs. With over 11 years of experience and a deep understanding of both Asian cultural dynamics and the expat experience, Geetika brings a rare breadth of perspective to her work. You can see her videos here.
Our goal is not to take sides — it is to help both of you feel understood, and to give you the tools to build a stronger, more resilient relationship together.

What to Expect
A couples session at Balanced Life typically lasts 90 minutes, giving both partners adequate time to speak and be heard. Sessions are held in a private, comfortable therapy room at our Singapore clinic, or via secure video call for couples who prefer online sessions or are based overseas.
Most couples begin to experience meaningful shifts within 6–12 sessions, though the duration of therapy depends on your specific situation and goals. Read this blog on how to make couples therapy a success.
Pre-Marital Counselling
Considering marriage or a long-term commitment? Pre-marital counselling is one of the most valuable investments a couple can make. We help you explore communication styles, values, family expectations, finances, and potential future tensions in a constructive, positive environment — before they become problems.
For Expat Couples in Singapore
Relocating to a new country puts unique pressure on relationships. One partner may be working intensely while the other navigates a new identity as a trailing spouse. Social networks are thinner. Cultural expectations differ. We have extensive experience supporting expat couples in Singapore and globally, and understand the specific dynamics that international life can create. Read our blog here on expat marriage strain.
