Autism & ASD Assessment in Singapore
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects the way a person communicates, processes social information, and experiences the world. Each person on the spectrum is unique — and for many, a formal diagnosis opens the door to the right support, accommodations, and self-understanding.
At Balanced Life Psychotherapy & Counselling, we offer comprehensive private ASD and Autism assessments for children and adults in Singapore. Our certified psychologist uses globally validated assessment tools and issues detailed written reports suitable for use with schools, the Ministry of Education, and other organisations.
Who Should Consider an Autism/ASD Assessment?
You may wish to explore an ASD assessment if your child or a loved one:
- Has difficulties with social interaction and reading social cues (read our blog here on parenting an autistic child)
- Communicates in atypical ways (delayed speech, literal interpretation, scripted language)
- Displays repetitive behaviours or strong, narrow interests
- Is highly sensitive — or unusually insensitive — to sensory input (sound, touch, light)
- Prefers rigid routines and becomes distressed by unexpected change
- Struggles to connect with peers despite wanting to
- Has received feedback from school that they learn or interact differently
- Has been referred by a school counsellor or teacher for further evaluation (read our blog on the importance of school counsellors)
ASD also presents very differently in girls and women, and in highly intelligent individuals — where masking (camouflaging autistic traits) can lead to a lifetime of going undiagnosed.
Our Autism/ASD Assessment Process
Our assessments follow a thorough, multi-method protocol that includes:
- Comprehensive clinical interview with the client and/or family
- Standardised assessment instruments validated for ASD diagnosis
- Developmental and social history review
- Behavioural observation
- A detailed written report with findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and practical recommendations
Our reports are written to be used with the Ministry of Education (MOE), mainstream and SPED schools, and other relevant institutions. We can also refer to specialist psychiatrists where additional medical input is needed.

Autism/ASD Assessment vs. Public Options
Public ASD assessments through MOE, KKH, NUH and other institutions are available but currently not fully covered by public resources — and waiting lists can be lengthy. Private assessment offers a faster, confidential, and clinically thorough alternative, typically completed within days of first contact.
CIGNA and Allianz insurance holders may be covered for psychological assessments — contact us to confirm.
Autism/ASD Assessments for Adults
Many adults in Singapore are seeking ASD assessments for the first time after decades of feeling different, struggling socially, or sensing that their brain works in ways that others do not understand. An adult ASD assessment is not about labelling — it is about understanding yourself more fully, and accessing the support and accommodations you deserve.
